The Swedish National Final Melodifestivalen 2005 was held at the Globen Arena in Stockholm on March 12th, 2005. Exactly as last year, before the final there were 4 semi-finals with 32 songs (10 of which were Swedish language songs) in order to find the 10 finalists. :
 

• Semi-Final 1: February 12th in Gothenburg

• Semi-Final 2: February 19th in Linköping

• Semi-Final 3: February 26th in Skellefteå

• Semi-Final 4: March 5th in Växjö

• Second chance Round: March 6th in Stockholm

The first 4 semi-finals contained 8 songs. As usual, 2 from each semi qualified and all 3rd and 4th places went to the Second chance Round, where 2 more would make the 10 strong fields for the Final.

The running order of the winners of the Semi-finals, and therefore the competitors for the Swedish National Final, was as follows:

* Shirley Clamp was a backing singer for Greece in the 2001 ESC. She was also a backing singer for Hanna & Lina in the 2002 Swedish Final, took part in the 2003 Semi-Finals and came 2nd in 2004

* Jimmy Jansson was a member of the group Poets who took part in the 2002 Swedish Semi-Finals

* Fredrik Kempe took part in the 2004 Swedish Semi-Finals. Sanna Nielsen came 3rd in 2001 and 5th in 2003

* Nanne Grönvall already participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1996 as part of the group One more time with the song Den vilda.

2005 NATIONAL FINALS
