The Swedish Melodifestivalen 1998 was held on March 14th, 1998 at the Malmo Musikteater, hosted by Pernilla Månsson and Magnus Karlsson. In the National Final a total of 10 songs were performed. Then 5 were picked to be performed again. The winner was chosen by regional juries.

* Elisabeth Melander was a backing singer for Sweden in the 1991 and 1995 Eurovision Song Contests, while she did the same for Malta in 1992

Both Kärleken är and Avundsjuk had a lot of success in the Swedish charts.
At the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest, Jill Johnson managed to attain a respectable 10th place
