The winning song was chosen by the votes of 10 regional juries.

This was the 9th time that Linda Martin had been in the Irish Final, having previously participated in 1976, 1977, 1978, 1982 (with the group Chips), 1984, 1986, 1989 and 1990. Having finished 2nd in the 1984 Eurovision, she went on to win the 1992 contest!
